What is Design Comp?
The Design Competition takes place the day before the Carnival races. It is an event in which teams present both new and veteran buggies to a panel of judges. The judges come from a relevant industry or are Carnegie Mellon faculty members, and are experts in the fields of design and engineering. They judge the buggies based on the following criteria:
• Body/Chassis
• Steering
• Safety & Driver Occupancy
• Braking
• Materials & Technology
• Overall impression and craftsmanship
To qualify for a design competition prize, a buggy must score well in the aforementioned categories, as well as place in the top third of the men's or women's races.
